Stuart is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team and he is based in the Manchester office.

Having trained and qualified with Pinsents, Birmingham in 1993, Stuart joined his former firm Martineau Johnson in 1996 where he remained (becoming a Partner and Head of Commercial Disputes) until April 2006 when he joined Laytons.

Stuart specialises in commercial disputes and professional negligence.  He has acted for clients in claims concerning breach of contract and / or torts, often involving complex technical and legal issues, both in the Commercial and Technology and Construction divisions of the High Court, as well as the Court of Appeal.

Stuart has particular expertise in product liability disputes and cases involving production line equipment.  He also has considerable experience of a broad range of disputes involving shareholders, partnerships, professionals, financial institutions, agencies and distributors.

Stuart is experienced in other forms of dispute resolution, particularly mediation and he has brought a number of cases to a successful conclusion using this form of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Over the years, Stuart has also pursued and developed a niche specialism in equine law and currently advises a number of commercial and private clients in relation to a variety of equine related issues.  He is also a regular contributor to publications on the subject.
