Intellectual Property, Technology and Media

Intellectual property, information technology and related UK and EU competition law are at the heart of our practice.

We provide legal services in our specialist fields but we never lose sight of the overriding commercial objectives of our clients.  We strive to provide commercially relevant and practical advice that adds value to our clients’ businesses.  This includes helping our clients in the creation, exploitation and protection of all types of IP rights; securing technology, branding and other IP deals; and providing services relating to litigation and dispute resolution in the most cost effective way.  Our Fixed Fee Preliminary IP Audit is an example of a product that we have designed to meet the sometimes competing commercial and legal needs of our clients.

We also advise on advertising and marketing regulations issues (with particular experience in the health & beauty, food & drink and gaming and competition sectors) and the increasingly complex legal areas of data protection and privacy.

Our ability to understand the complexities of your technology faster and in more depth than others has attracted a number of well-known clients from throughout the United Kingdom and beyond.  We act for clients from a wide range of sectors from leading technology companies to famous household names, consumer brands to biotech and mobile technology companies, and from international conglomerates to university spin-outs.

Our technology team was rated number one for IP in the South by ‘Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession 2001’ and was described as being "fabulous at what it does".

Early and accurate evaluation of issues often avoids lengthy and expensive legal actions. We pride ourselves on providing creative, practical business-focused legal advice, and on working in partnership with our clients to achieve their commercial objectives.

A number of our lawyers speak fluent foreign languages, such as French, Italian, German, Dutch, Chinese and Korean, and they are experienced in dealing with the different cultures that may influence the dynamic of a deal.  This often greatly assists matters with international significance.  Our extensive network of contacts with overseas law firms also enables us to effectively advise on and deal with international aspects of IP issues.  For an example of this, see the case studies section.

Technical Expertise

In addition to law qualifications, several of our lawyers hold degrees in science and engineering and have experience of working in industry. This unique combination of knowledge and skill set provides a synergy that enables us to work more effectively on legal matters where a technical understanding is important.
