Alec is Head of Intellectual Property Disputes at Laytons ETL, with more than 25 years' experience advising businesses on complex intellectual property and reputation management disputes. Before joining Laytons ETL, Alec practised at leading City and national law firms before becoming Joint Head of IP Litigation at a specialist intellectual property law boutique.

Alec has particular expertise in helping businesses protect and enforce valuable intellectual property rights, combining technical legal knowledge with commercially focused advice to achieve practical outcomes. His experience covers disputes involving multinational brands, manufacturers, retailers and media organisations across a wide range of sectors.
He represents clients in the High Court, the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) and before the UK Intellectual Property Office in trade mark registry proceedings.
Notable Work
Acted for a global media publisher in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court in trade mark infringement and passing off proceedings against an events access /concierge company that had made unauthorised use of the client's trade marks.
Acted for a leading soft drinks manufacturer in High Court trade mark infringement proceedings against a major supermarket concerning competing own-brand products.
Represented a global luxury goods manufacturer in High Court action relating to trade mark infringement and passing off involving the sale of counterfeit and lookalike products.
